A Giant Leap for LeapServs
May. 8, 2006 7:00pm
BitLeap®, a Carlisle-based managed service provider, today released new models of the managed server line, LeapServ®, responsible for administering automatic data backups and VPN connections. The new models include changes in design, components, capacity and backup rating for all three LeapServ form factors.
LeapServ Mini
BitLeap’s sleek Mini model received the biggest design change with the adoption of a new totally fanless enclosure. The new model was designed to provide even greater reliability and reduced environmental disturbance. The Mini’s dead silent operating volume makes it nicely inconspicuous to nearby personnel as it dutifully protects critical data. This is the perfect LeapServ for offices with close quarters.
The new Mini also got a backup rating bump to 30GB and 60GB models due to faster processors and larger standard form factor hard drives. According to BitLeap’s CEO, Guy Suter,
“This is the simplest of all LeapServs. You just plug it in and it starts backing up your data. It doesn’t even have a power button!”
The new LeapServ Mini starts at $649 and allows businesses to backup up to 30GB of data locally and offsite using BitLeap’s automatic data backup service.
LeapServ Shelf
BitLeap’s popular Shelf model looks very similar but has received a full rework under the hood. Apart from a pretty new logo on the front, this LeapServ includes dual core Intel® processing support and higher capacity SATA hard drives for a massive backup rating of up to 400GB. Best of all, the Shelf model LeapServs still start out at the aggressively priced $995.
LeapServ Rack
The SATA array rack mounted model is the flagship of the LeapServ line. It boasts an unbelievable RAID-5 redundant storage capacity of 1500GB and a roomy backup rating of 1TB all packed into 1U of rack space. This is the killer backup appliance for larger and enterprise level businesses.
The LeapServ Rack can also function as a highly reliable VPN connection point for many remote offices equipped with smaller LeapServ models. Large businesses with over a terabyte of data to backup can simply string these powerful 1U backup appliances together in clusters for a truly scalable backup solution.
