BitLeap Included in Gartner’s 2007 Online Server Backup Services Report

Jul. 17, 2007 9:22am

Carlisle, PA - BitLeap is pleased to note that it was mentioned in research firm Gartner’s recent report on online server backup and recovery services.1

Among the eight companies included in the report by Gartner analysts Adam Couture and Stanley Zaffos, BitLeap believes it is the only one that provides proprietary backup technology based around open-source software.

According to the Gartner Report, “At SMBs with limited IT staff, backups are often performed sporadically, if at all, and backup tapes are frequently left on site, eliminating the possibility of recovering from site disasters. Even large companies with dozens or hundreds of remote servers frequently delegate remote backup responsibilities to non-IT professionals (a night clerk at a hotel, for example).”

“Outsourcing backup/restores eliminates the need to purchase backup/restore hardware and software specialists, hire or train staff as backup/restore specialists, create and maintain policies and procedures, and simplify disaster recovery testing,” said Gartner.

BitLeap’s managed offsite storage backup and recovery solution is strengthened by its onsite hardware-based backup appliance, LeapServ, said BitLeap CEO, Guy Suter. “The LeapServ allows users to restore any lost or corrupted data quickly from the onsite backup, while still protecting data offsite. Offsite backup at two redundant locations further strengthens the company’s backup and restore solution.”

“Proprietary encryption, compression and de-duplication techniques also provide for fast offsite backup and recovery over standard business Internet connections, in rapid timeframes that are not crippling to business,” said Mr. Suter.

“The good news,” said Gartner, “is that list prices that once neared $70 per gigabyte per month plummeted and have stabilized at under $10 and are certain to go even lower as competition increases and service providers implement or take advantage of low-cost storage alternatives.”

BitLeap’s backup solution protects client data at price ranges from $0.64/GB to $2.45/GB.
